This spring kick started with a printing pattern redolent of science fiction, portraying the essence of the Japanese science fiction movieGhost in the Shell (1995)” directed by Mamoru Oshii, which is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow.

In the movie, Mamoru Oshii illustrated the future in the year of 2030, an era where all organs except for the brain can be replaced by biochemical electronic prosthesis. The story revolves around the fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization Public Security Section 9 a.k.a. Ghost in the Shell, led by protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi. The department serves to hunt top hackers known as “Puppet Master,” while exploring the conflicts between the internet and the reality and the philosophical propositions on the crisis of human nature and self-existence. Today’s world is undoubtedly approaching the one described on “Ghost in the Shell.” The genre of Cyberpunk targets the advanced development science and technology, and in turn promotes vigilance on the use of cyber.

In this collaboration with “Ghost in the Shell,” you can find scenes of Major Motoko Kusanagi and the fictional Japanese city of Niihama, Niihama Prefecture, which is inspired by the old Hong Kong. With the use of collage, this spring collection is full of tension.
